New Hope Advocacy Parent Workbook Series

Two workbooks. One mission. Prepared parents. Brighter futures.

Prepare. Participate. Advocate.

Practical tools for the meetings that shape your child's education

Each workbook is a preparation system you write in, bring to the meeting, and keep with your family's records. They are written by Dr. Teresa D. Simkins-Aris, drawing on more than four decades in education, special education and advocacy.

Which workbook is right for me?

An IEP and a 504 plan are different processes with different rules, so each needs its own preparation. If you are not sure which plan your child has, check the most recent plan document from the school or ask the school's special education or 504 coordinator.

IEP Workbook

  • For students who qualify for special education services
  • Focuses on the IEP process, goals, and specially designed instruction
  • Tools for understanding services, progress, and placement
  • Helps you prepare for IEP meetings

504 Workbook

  • For students who need accommodations due to a disability
  • Focuses on the 504 process and reasonable accommodations
  • Tools for functional impact, accommodation review, and implementation
  • Helps you prepare for 504 meetings

Different processes. The same mission. These workbooks are educational resources, not legal advice.
